How SMACNA Contractors Can Help Bridge the Labor Gap

Tuesday, December 10, 2024
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (CST)

Event Details

Join SMACNA Past-President and former CEO of Western Allied Mechanical, Angie Simon as she speaks with Aaron Heilbrun, Category Director for Safety for Sustainability and Industry Trends at Stanley Black & Decker about her efforts to get the next generation of skilled workers excited about a career in the sheet metal industry. You’ll learn about how Heavy Metal Summer Experience, an innovative six-week pilot program designed to expand work-based college alternatives, introduces high school students and recent graduates to careers in the building trades to help fill our industry’s labor shortages.

Simon and Heilbrun will discuss how the program started in 2021, when SMACNA members Western Allied Mechanical and Hermanson Company teamed up with SMACNA-Western Washington to show 28 student participants what a career in the skilled trades looks like. They’ll also chart how the program has grown to where in 2024, Heavy Metal Summer Experience connected nearly 500 students at 38 locations nationwide.

Most importantly, you’ll get information on how this program works and how your company could participate in 2025 and beyond.
